C-Arrow Stables
C - Arrow Stables was founded in 1989 by the Cole family. They wanted to offer everyone the chance to experience what they had growing up with in the horse world. As a kid, their parents ran several successful businesses training and selling horses. In later years, their father worked in the movies, training actors (and their horses). As a family, they toured the rodeo circuit, trained horses for celebrities, and won awards for their paint and quarter horses.
As they got older, they realized awards weren't the path to real happiness. They settled down in Maize, and quickly got to work becoming one of the top stables in the area. They offer the full experience here. From boarding and riding lessons, to the petting zoo and outfitting. If you have an interest in the rural lifestyle, C-Arrow is a great place to get your hands dirty!

Maize– History
The area around Maize was first settled by J.K. Steele and his wife Anna in 1870. They, and the other pioneers of Maize, came despite the presence of the Osage Indians, who were the original occupants of the region and were not yet completely willing to give up the land. In 1867 the Osage had conducted a series of raids in Kansas reacting to the building of the Union Pacific railroad.
However, these pioneers remained, and on February 1st, 1886, William A. Williams became the first postmaster of the new Maize, Kansas. It was founded as the first stop out of Wichita on the Wichita & Colorado railway under the auspices of the Missouri Pacific Railroad Company.
Reverend J.M. Ashley opened the the First Congregational Church which was the first church in the Maize area. In 1876, The First Congregational prompted Maize's first expansion by founding its first school, Maize Academy or the Western Seminary. It opened in 1894 originally as a two year preparatory school for Fairmount College, now Wichita State University. The school was also noted for the quality of its baseball teams. Graduates Orville and Walter Frantz would later play professionally with the Kansas City Blues. The school burned in 1910, and was never rebuilt. In 1915, the Maize Town Company was dissolved and on the 31st of May, Maize was incorporated as a City of the Third Class.
A 1928 census had listed Maize's population at 222, and it was only at 266 in 1950. By 1956, however, there 660 people in Maize.
In 1964, an Air Force F-105 fighter crashed into a field. Fortunately, the pilot parachuted out and was unhurt. However, Dennis Jones, the operator of Maize Mills, had a heart attack while watching this and passed away.
In 1986 Maize celebrated its centennial year of existence. Also in 1986, the first Pizza Hut was opened in Maize.
